On Monday, December 15, our Temporary Lodging contract will be officially cancelled. For the past year and a half, we poured ourselves into building Specialized Supports NW with one purpose: to be ready when a displaced child needed a safe place to land. We worked through licensing, compliance, training, and preparation. We hired and trained a team, and we were ready. We were waiting for a referral. And then we were told the contract would end before we ever had the chance to serve even the first youth in crisis. That decision has been heartbreaking. Not because of pride, but because there are real people on the other end of this work. Staff who said yes for the right reasons, and kids in Oregon who need safe, trauma informed options in moments of crisis. As a result, we have laid off our newly trained team. With the contract ending, SSNW has been forced to lose its doors. To everyone who supported us, encouraged us, prayed for us, or believed this kind of care should exist, thank you. We are grateful, and we are proud of what our staff built in the time we were given.
